ARIASP (Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agricultural Services Project) was implemented from August,1995 to June,2005 with a credit of US $ 126 million from the World Bank-IDA. Its main elements and objectives were (i) poverty alleviation with special emphasis on rural poor and women; (ii) improved nutrition; (iii) acceleration of growth of farm sector; (iv) capacity building of the state government implementing agencies; (v) association of community in project activities. In order to achieve these objectives, the project was envisaged investments in four project components– (a) Poverty alleviation ; (b) Institutional development ; (c) Infrastructure development ; and (d) Project management through six departments of Public Works, Agriculture, Irrigation, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and the Assam Agricultural University (AAU).
